Udupi: Rotary Shankerpura Celebrated ’Charter Day’ and Held Installation Ceremony

Udupi /Shankerpura, 04 Jul 2015: Rotary Shankerpura celebrated its " Charter Day " and Installation Ceremony of the new office bearers amidst large number of Rotarians from various locations and guests.  The grand and glittering ceremony was held on Sunday the 28th June 2015 at Rotary Bhavan Shankerpura.

 

Outgoing Rotary President Rtn. Jerome Rodrigues presided over the function.  The Chief Guest and Installation officer of the day was Rtn. Abhinandan Shetty of Rotary Club Kundapur and Guest of Honours  namely Rtn. Sathyendra Pai, Assistant Governor Zone 3, R.I. Dist 3180 and Rtn. Francis D’Sa, Zonal Lieutenant of Zone 3.

 

President Jerome Rodrigues accorded a warm welcome to the guests on dais and large number of guest members, media persons gathered on the occasion.  Senior Rotarian and Past President of the club Rtn. Krishnamurthy Rao in his introductory speech explained the importance of " Charter Day " and remembered all the predecessors of the club and their relentless service to the mankind which helped the club to reach greater heights.

 

Chief Guest Rtn. Abhinandan Shetty praised the club for its 3 decades of service to humanity and commitment to society.  Assistant Governor Zone 3, Rtn. Sathyendra Pai expressed hishappiness towards the club for accomplishing all the district projects.  Zonal Lieutenant Rtn. Francis D’Sa who is the member of the host club and pillar of strength to Rotary Club Shankerpura requested Rotarians to undertake more community based project to benefit the under-privileged and downtrodden people of the society.

 

Outgoing President Rtn. Jerome Rodrigues bid adieu with a heavy heart.  He had joined Rotary after attaining superannuation from Muscat International Airport, Oman and promptly elected to the post of President.   After taking the reins of the club a sea of changes has taken place such as lengthy paper work, scribbling notes, postage etc vanished and replaced by emails and internet connections via connecting members through E-club.  Neat correspondence was available on the click of the mouse.

The new office bearers Installed for 2015-2016 were Rtn. Clifford D’Mello, a young, energetic and pro-active member of the club, followed by Secretary Rtn. Anil D’Sa, young, handsome, eversmiling and a prominent singer.  Both of them have enormous strength in shouldering the responsibilities of the club to raise the bar to the greater heights.

 

On the auspicious occasion, all the past and present Rotarians, zonal officers, guest members, media persons were felicitated for their relentless service to the club and humanity.  They were felicitated by the Chief guest and guest of honors with floral bouquets.

 

Also honoured on the occasion were the outstanding students of SSLC and PUC from Shankerpura and Innanje for obtaining the highest marks in the respective categories of arts, science and commerce.

 

Rotary club Shankerpura:

Rotary Shankerpura was established in the year 1984 with one goal, Service to the humanity.  Ever since the inception of this club several humanitarian projects have taken place in the field of hunger, poverty, health, literacy, woman empowerment, water and sanitation.  Club is conducting un-interrupted psychiatric camps for the last 12 years and every month over 150 patients attend the camps and avail free medicine for which Rotary District 3180 was recognized as an outstanding project.  The coveted award was presented in a recently held District Assembly at Mysore.

 

25 years ago Rotary International embarked on a Major Projects to eradicate polio from this world and it yielded fruit.  Recently India has been declared as Polio free nation.  Now Rotary is dreaming of eliminating illiteracy from South Asia.  A joint step has been taken in this direction and implemented a Project called " TEACH " (Teacher Support, E-learning, Adult Education, Child development, Happy School).
