Puttur: Stree Shakti members pull truckloads on deplored road at Kallarpe

Puttur, 25 June 2015: Don’t think the women and the locals are pulling a truck is a tug-of-war competition. It’s the daily scene one finds in front of food processing unit of women and child welfare department at Kallarpe in the purview of Aryapu village. 

 

Indeed the road linking the food processing unit lies in deplored state that the members of Stree Shakti got to undergo such daily ordeal. The unit produces nutritious food in order to supply to Anganawadi, while the Stree Shakti members got to pull the trucks laden with grains without a choice.

 

 

Despite the road lies in deplored state for many years, the village council was not bothered to asphalt the road. The truckloads of grains that arrive at the unit further worsen the road and get stranded in the middle of road. It also hinders the movement of other automobiles. The trucks stranded in the middle of the road are being pulled by the women members of Stree Shakti who are working at the unit. The grains are needed to process food for packing purposes.

 

Despite the issue has been taken up with women and child welfare department, it has not done anything to solve the issue. The unit is supplying nutritious food to Anganawadi in Puttur and Sullia taluks and 3 to 4 truckloads are dispatched daily. The monsoon season is horrific for motoring in deplored road.  

 

The locals urge the village council and child and women welfare department to take measures in concreting the road as a permanent measure to save the women labor who can fully devote to the processing job.
