Five Star Friends - Udyavara organizes Udupi Diocese Level Tennis Ball Cricket Tourney

Udupi, 23 Jun 2015: Five Star Friends Udayavara organized Udupi Diocese Level Tennis ball Cricket tournament at Udayavara Panchayat ground here recently.

 

Tournament was inaugurated by Wilfred D’Souza, president of Sauhardha Samiti, Udayavara on the occasion.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Wilson said, ‘These kinds of tournaments promote unity of youths and foster good relations.’

 

A total 12 teams participated on first day of the tournament.

 

On Sunday June 21, a total of 12 teams participated. In first semi final SMS Bramhavara team defeated Moodbelle team and entered final. Vamanjoor team defeated Kuntalnagar team in second semi final and entered the finals.

 

 

In finals Vamanjoor  team won the toss and elected to bat first & scored 44 runs with 4 loss of wickets in 5 overs whereas SMS Bramhavara   scored 37 runs losing 6 wickets in 5 overs. The winning team took home a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and 5 Star Trophy and runner’s up team backed Rs 5,000 and 5 Star Trophy. 20 teams participated from Udupi diocese. 2 guest teams from Mangalore diocese. 1 Syrian Catholic team and 1 Protestant team.

 

Man of The match was Pramith Veigas, Vamanjoor. Best bowler was Lesly D’Cunha, Vamanjoor. Best batsman Avith Mascarenhas, Vamanjoor. Man of the series was Joy Bramhavar won 10 kg rice and trophy.

 

Closing ceremony was presided by Wilson D’Souza, president of Udupi district Jaya Karnataka.

 

Addressing the gathering D’Souza said, ‘Youths are the life of Nation. Youth’s should work together for the betterment of the society.” He also said that youth should join the groups like Jaya Karnataka and should indulge in social work.’ He congratulated five star friends & also the winners of the tournament.

 

Sathish G Malpe famous tennis ball cricket player, Sayyed Gurukambla, Mangaluru popular commentators in Hindi, Glanish and Glancia Pinto shuttle badminton players where felicitated on this occasion.

 

Fr Naveen Sequeria, assistant parish priest St Francis Xavier Church, Udayavara, Michael D’Souza, Riyaz Palli, Jitendra Shetty, Nishanth Karkada, Mithesh Kumar and Alwyn Lewis were present.

 

The entrepreneur Suresh Shetty Gurme also visited the tourney on June 21.

 

Commetators for the event were Vinay Udayavara, Prashanth Ambalpady and Sayyed Gurukambla.

 

Steven Colaco welcomed the gathering. Anil D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks. Vinay Udayavar compered the event.
