Zilla Panchayat and Taluk Panchayat Election Results in Udupi by Noon

Udupi, 04 January 2011: The eagerly awaited day has come by the candidates of different parties in particular and the people of Karnataka in general as the outcome of the Zilla Panchayat (ZP) and Taluk Panchayat (TP) results will indicate the trend in the near future. While the BJP is hoping to get an endorsement of its administration by getting majority of the ZPs and TPs in its kitty, the Congress and JD (S) hope that the alleged corruption under the BJP regime will bring them majority, thus a verdict against the BJP.

 

 

It is believed that the fate of 74 candidates for 25 ZP seats and 238 candidates for 95 TP seats in Udupi district will be known by Tuesday noon.The counting is being held at Udupi Saint Cecily’s High School, Brahmagiri; Kundapur Bandarkar’s Arts and Science College and Sri Manjunatha Memorial First Grade College in Karkala. The district administration has made elaborate arrangements for the counting process. The result is expected to be out by noon.

 

In order to avoid any untoward incidents in the Udupi district Section 35 under Karnataka Police Act has been imposed from Tuesday 8 am to Wednesday 8 am. Observing victory rallies and bursting of crackers have been banned.

 

The District Magistrate has also announced dry days from Monday midnight to Tuesday midnight. The sale or distribution of liquor at hotels, wine shops, bar and restaurants are banned. The serving of liquor in non-proprietary clubs, star hotels, restaurants and hotels who have been issued different categories of licenses for possession and supply of liquor is also banned during the period.
