Mangalore University planning PG centre at Hiriyadkka
Mangaluru, 17 Jun 2015: After laying the foundation stone for an advanced science research centre at Belapu village in Udupi district recently, Mangalore University is now planning to open a postgraduate centre in the district.
Addressing presspersons on Tuesday, K. Byrappa, Vice-Chancellor, said that the university was examining the possibility of opening the centre at the Government First Grade College at Hiriyadkka, Udupi district.
Discussion held
The college had 11 acres of land. Adjoining the college, the university had identified about 39 acres suitable for the centre. The Syndicate of the university had held a discussion on the issue.
He said the centre would not be opened in the current academic year. If all goes as per plans, it could be opened from the next academic year.
Mr. Byrappa said the university would offer postgraduate courses in Hindi and Sanskrit on the Mangalagangotri campus from the current academic year.
A degree college, which would be a constituent college of the university, would be started at Konaje from the current academic year. It would have B.A. and B.Com. courses.
The evening college to be opened at the University College, Hampankatta, from the 2015-16 academic year, would also offer B.A. and B.Com. courses.
Integrated course
He said that the university had introduced a five-year integrated course in tourism at its Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa College.
A student joining the course after II PU and completing first year would get a diploma in tourism; after second year an advanced diploma; and a BBM degree after three years; a honours degree after four years and an MBA in integrated tourism after five years.
In addition, a two-year postgraduate course in MBA (tourism administration) too has been started at FMKMC College.
A second batch for the evening M.Com. course would be started at University College if there was demand, he added.
