Mangauru: Girl ends life, blames constable
Mangaluru, 10 June 2015: A 17-year-old student committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan with a shawl at her house in Ullal police station limits on Wednesday.
The incident took place between 5 am and 6.15 am when her mother had gone for yoga classes, the cops said. A death note has been retrieved. The victim identified as Jyoti had completed PU and secured admission for B Com. About eight months ago, she met constable Praveen Salian through Facebook.
It is learnt that the girl was in love with Salian, but he used to allegedly blackmail and threaten her often. The suicide note states that the accused had threatened her that he would commit suicide if she did not act as per his wishes. Salian had demanded Rs 1 lakh or even gold from her, it is believed.
According to sources, the accused was known for blackmailing girls and extorting money from them. He was even warned in the past regarding such behaviour. He was known as "Yedu Praveena" (meaning goat). He allegedly used to spend the money in cock fights and gambling.
Commissioner of Police S Murugan said the accused has been arrested.
