Mangaluru, 18 May 2015: Ramakrishna Mission carried out Swacch Mangaluru for Swacch Bharath - cleanliness drive on 16th consecutive Sunday – May 17 at Lady Hill Circle here.
The drive was inaugurated by Dr Jeevaraj Sorake and Swami Yatidharmananda of Rajkot Ramakrsihna Mission, in the presence of Swami Jitakamananda, MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik, Sheshappa, Shubhoday Alva, Satyanarayana K V, NSS Coordinator Vineetha Rai, Suresh Shetty and other eminent persons were present at the venue.
Students of Ramakrishna Mission Balakashram and other devotees, volunteers and well-wishers of the Ashram took an active part in the drive.
The road direction boards which had not seen paint for past few years and were not serving their purpose were painted for the benefit of the public.
The misplaced direction boards which were misleading the visitors and new comers to the city were shifted to their proper places thus benefitting the public.
Dirt and garbage dumped across the footpath were cleared and weeds were removed. The railings of the footpath that were corroded were given paint anew and posters with attractive graphics and message on Swacch Bharath Theme were pasted for the public awareness.
Handbills on awareness were distributed by our volunteers among the public in the locality.
The interlock-layed-footpath leading to bus stand in Lady Hill used by hundreds everyday has been extensively damaged. Our volunteers will set the interlock tiles tomorrow and repair the path thus benefitting the public. MRPL, principal patron sponsored this week’s initiative.
This is a part of the 40 weeks Cleanliness Drive being organized by the Ramakrishna Mission and initiated on February 1.
