Bantwal: Swimming spree gone awry; Student downs in nature’s pond at Marakkini - Adyanadka

Bantwal, 03 May 2015: One student among three was drowned in a nature’s pond located in a private plantation when they have gone for swimming at nearby Marakkini – Adyanadka, here on Sunday May 3.
The deceased has been identified as fourteen-year-old Pavanraj, son of Marakkini Appayya Salian.
The students of local high school - sixteen-year-old Class X student Sunil, son of Marakkini resident Shivaram Bangera, fourteen-year-old Class IX student Pavanraj, thirteen-year-old Class VIII student Prajwal have gone to Adyanadka and while returning ventured into the nature’s pond in a private property on Sunday afternoon.
The students knew no swimming but tried to wade through the waters, when Prajwalraj who was well ahead of all of them was drowned because he misjudged the depth.
The property owner informed Puttur fire brigade and also Vittal police station. Although fire brigade arrived at the spot, the local ace swimmer Partha Varanasi managed to retrieve the body of Prajwalraj.
The chief fire officer Muttappa Gowda, fire fighters Eshwar P, Satish and driver Anand were involved in this operation.
Vittal assistant sub-inspector Prakash Devadiga and police personnel also visited the spot and registered a case in this regard.
