Bantwal: SK Bidi Workers Federation (AITUC) condemns union govt for banning bidi

Bantwal, 29 Apr 2015: Both union and state governments needs the votes of bidi workers, but fail to take care of their interest that is condemnable, said South Kanara Bidi Workers Federation (AITUC) president P Sanjeev.
Addressing the thirty-eighth annual general body meeting of Panemangaluru Bidi and General Workers Union (AITUC) at Sumangala Kalyana Mantapa, Panemangaluru, here on Wednesday April 29, Sanjeev said the union government has recently introduced an Act to ban bidi without seriously thinking about its impact on huge number of bidi workers across the country, said Sanjeev.
He cautioned the union government to rehabilitate huge number of bidi workers if the government is serious about winding bidi industry, added Sanjeev. He also criticized the PM Modi-led BJP government in the centre, for depriving rightful minimum pension of Rs 1,000 per month by making it applicable from April 2015 thereby favoring the capitalists, alleged Sanjeev.
AITUC district president V Kukyan said that PM Modi assured to bring back black money from overseas in 100 days, but failed despite of 11 months, said Kukyan.
South Kanara Bidi Workers Federation secretary V Sitaram Berinja, Bidi and Tobacco Labor Union treasurer M Karunakar, Bantwal taluk Bidi and Labor Union secretary B Shekar, Udupi taluk Bidi Labor Union treasuer K V Bhat, former deputy councilor Vittal Bangera and S Chandappa Anchan also spoke on the occasion.
Narikombu gram panchayat member Baby, Panemangaluru Bidi and General Workers Union vice presidents K Eshwar and Sunita Gopal were present at the dais.
South Kanara Bidi Workers Federation president Saraswati Kadeshwalya presided the programme.
Saraswati Kadeshwalya elected as president for 2015-16, K Eshwar, Baby Sajipamunnoor and Sunita Gopal (vice presidents), Suresh Kumar (general secretary), Shamita Kuriyala, Shubhashini and Shyamala Shetty (joint secretaries).
Suresh Kumar welcomed the gathering. Baby Sajipamunnoor proposed vote of thanks.
