Karkal: Valedictory of Kalikotsav - students stage Yakshagana play at Belman School

Karkal, 08 Apr 2015: The script of Yakshagana is grammatically perfect and maintains purity of Kannada. If the children are encouraged to take roles in Yakshagana in their childhood, it would improve their memory, speak pure Kannada. They are also gets the spiritual bliss because of their involvement in different mythological episodes of Yakshagana that is a divine art, said Janardhan Shastry, director of Yakshaloka Nandalike.
Shastry was speaking after inaugurating children’s Yakshagana play, Sudarshan Garvabhanga during the valedictory of Kalikotsav at St Joseph’s Higher Primary School, Belman, near here on Tuesday April 7.
Nandalike and Mundkoor cluster CRP Chandrakant D’Sa was the chief guest, said that Kalikotsav – an innovative programme introduced by district deputy director of public instructions provides a platform for the children in order to explore their inherent talents.
Belman parish priest and School correspondent Fr Lawrence B D’Souza said that he used to attend Yakshagana plays since his childhood. It is indeed helping the children to enhance their knowledge and cultural upbringing.
JCI member Sudhakar Acharya, Belman gram panchayat member Prabhakar Shetty, entrepreneurs Uday Acharya and Sasindra Shetty, convent superior Sr Usha Stella, the School head teacher Sr Monica were present at the dais.
The senior teacher and programme convener B Pundalika Marate compered the programme. The teacher Vincent Pinto proposed vote of thanks.
The veteran Yakshagana artistes Yogesh Aladangady, Satwik Sagrittaya, Lokesh Kateel, Rajesh Kateel and Chinmaya Kalladka trained the children on Yakshagana.
