Mangaluru, 29 Mar 2015: Criticizing on the new municipal budget tabled by senior Congress leader Harinath, the opposition BJP has called the budget as pale and said that it hampers the growth of the city as there are no new schemes for the betterment of the city.
Addressing the media persons at municipal building, here on Saturday March 28, the opposition leader of BJP in civic council Sudhir Shetty said that including the new projects suggested by the Dakshina Kannada district-in-charge minister Rai, even the projects sanctioned under the BJP regime have been neglected.
‘District in-charge minister Rai in the progress review meeting of civic body suggested for a pilot project to implement in 6 wards to make them the model ward. But no mention of this project along with the kerosene free city announcement has been made in the budget,’ said Sudhir.
The proposed new bus stand at Pumpwell has not been allocated of any funds in the new budget. It was the prime requirement of the city which has been neglected by ruling Congress party. Only Rs 10 crore worth of work for acquisition of 6 acres of land has been the progress of the project.
‘The ruling Congress party has violated its own promise by increasing the self assessment property tax to 15 percent. They had come to power saying that they will not increase the tax,’ he added.
Speaking on the occasion, the former opposition leader Premanand Shetty accused the internal discord of Congress being the prime reason for the dip in development rate in the city. ‘It’s the internal quarrel between state urban development minister Sorake’s group and district-in-charge minister Rai’s group that has hampered the development works. The BJP as an opposition will hold protests against this as the development of the city is the prime concern of BJP, said Premanand.
BJP leaders Prabha Malini, Roopa D Bangera, Vijaya Kumar Shetty and others were present.
