Mangaluru, 27 Mar 2015: The decisions taken by the previous UPA government is the prime reason for the present condition of Mangalore Chemical Fertilizers (MCF) Limited, said union fertilizer minister Ananth Kumar.
Addressing the media persons here on Friday March 27, minister Ananth said, ‘The UPA government took the decision to shut the Naphtha-based urea production unit in 2007 and ordered the same to convert to gas-based unit by July 2014. For the MCF, the nearest gas supply is Petronet in Kochi, Kerala and it had required the UPA government to hold talks with Kerala state government and get the right of way to the pipeline. Instead the congress leaders Veerappa Moily and Oscar Fernandes kept quiet for 7 long years and we had to shut MCF as per their order,’ said minister Ananth.
Now, when we held the talks with Kerala government they agreed and it requires 3 years to set up this pipeline and if UPA government had taken the same measure, MCF would not have faced the days of shutting down.
‘Though it was closed now, the union government has let MRPL produce the urea for the next one-and-a-half-year as the nation has great need of urea for farming,’ added minister Ananth.
Bharat Ratna to Atal Bihari Vajapeyee
The union minister also said that President Pranab Mukharjee will cover all formalities and present Bharat Ratna to former PM Atal Bihari Vajapeyee at his residence this evening.
‘This gesture of kindness and concern has filled all of us with happiness and we thank President for this,’ said minister Ananth.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, BJP district president Pratapsimha Nayak and others were present.
