Bantwal, 26 Mar 2015: The local villagers of Sajipamooda village staged a protest in front of Tahsildar’s office here on Wednesday March 25, expressing anguish over setting up crematorium at Bollai – Pattugudde, despite the opposition of locals violating Panchayat Raj Act, not to set up crematorium in the inhabited area.
RTI activist Ganapati Bhat who led the protest said that the district administration had reserved 0.45 acre of state-owned land under survey number 246/1A2 in Sajipamooda village, while some influential people misguided the officials to allot the plot under survey number 246/1A1B, in order to save their lands from being acquired by state authorities. Ganapati alleged that the orders issued by Assistant Commissioner is illegal and misuse of authority, because there are 30 houses and 4 drinking water wells within 100 meters of proposed crematorium.
The protesters presented a memorandum to Tahsildar Purandar Hegde in this regard.
