Mangaluru: DC advises prison officials to hold periodical health checkups of inmates

Mangaluru, 25 Mar 2015: DK Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim advised the officials of district sub-jail here to hold periodical health checkups of inmates in collaboration with medical colleges.
 
Addressing the gathering of prison visitors Committee at district sub-jail here on Tuesday March 24, DC Ibrahim also advised to hold dental checkup camp in collaboration with dental college.
 
The petty criminals and students involved in crimes should not be kept in the same cell shared by notorious criminals. They got to be placed in separate cells. The video conferencing is advised to appear in cases if inter district courts, to ease the difficulty of armed escort, DC Ibrahim advised to prison officials.
 
DC Ibrahim further said that a proposal will be made with the opinion of police commissioner in order to provide guns to prison staff to enhance security in jail.
 
The district chief judge M G Uma advised the prison staff to hold yoga classes to reform the inmates and also hold vocational training.

 

 
Prison inspection
 
Earlier, both DC Ibrahim and Judge Uma visited all cells of sub-jail, kitchen, store room and toilets. They also interacted with inmates. They also visited women cell and old prison.    
 
The deputy police commissioner (crime) Vishnuvardhan, PWD executive engineer Dharmaraj, district health officer Dr Ramakrishna, ASP Shekarappa, Wenlock Hospital superintendent Dr Rajeshwari Devi, prison superintendent Obaleshappa, other department officials were present.
