Mangaluru: RTO to allow rural auto rickshaws plying in city

Mangaluru, 13 Mar 2015: The auto rickshaws with rural permits issued by RTO will be allowed to bring passengers to the city. It was decided during the meeting of Deputy Commissioner, RTO and police officers, chaired by the state health minister U T Khader here on Thursday March 12 evening.
‘The rural auto rickshaws can bring passengers to the city and return. They would not be allowed to take passengers in the city. If they violate the provision, the police and RTO will take legal actions on such erring auto rickshaw drivers,’ said minister U T Khader.
He further said, ‘It was advised to paint green for rural auto rickshaws and yellow for city auto rickshaws, in order to easily identify the difference. If the rural auto rickshaws run their trade in city, in the first such offence, auto rickshaw would be seized and license will be suspended for 3 months. On second such offence, license will be suspended permanently. It has been agreed by the auto rickshaw unions of both town and rural areas,’ said minister U T Khader.
DC A B Ibrahim, RTO Afzal Ahmed Khan, mobile division ACP Uday Nayak, and representatives of different auto rickshaw drivers and owners union were present.
