Jacintha new Mayor, Purushothama Deputy Mayor of Mangaluru

Mangaluru, 12 Mar 2015: The four time Councillor Jacintha Vijaya Alfred and Purushothama Chitrapura from Congress were elected as Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Mangaluru respectively, on Thursday, March 12.
Jacintha who is the chairperson of the Standing Committee for Taxation, Finance and Appeals and represents Falnir ward won the mayoral elections with 38 votes against Roopa D Bangera from BJP who gained 20 votes.
While Congress candidate Purushothama Chitrapura, a Councillor from Baikampady ward and Chairman of the Standing Committee for Accounts, won the elections with 37 votes against BJP candidate K Rajesh who gained nearly 19 votes.
The ruling tenure of the newly elected Mayor and Deputy Mayor would be up to March 11, 2016. The Mysuru Regional Commissioner S S Pattana Shetty conducted the election.
As per the reservation roster, the offices of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor were reserved for a general category (woman) and general category, respectively.
MCC Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, and Gayathri officiated the election.
