Mangaluru, 27 Feb 2015: Some are trying to divide the society in the name of religion, caste and creed. But being Indians, we should let everyone live with peace and this is true secularism, said Umashree, state Kannada and culture, women and child development minister.
The minister Umashree was addressing Congress party workers at district Congress office here on Thursday February 26.
‘Hinduism teaches peace and harmony, and in fact all religions teach the same. In our constitution, a few special rights are bestowed on minority community. It makes no sense in demanding minority communities to move away from India. People of every religion should maintain peace and harmony and let everyone live with peace,’ said minister Umashree.
India was always a Hindu country. We all are Indians. Then I do not understand why people are being divided in the name of Hindutva, added minister Umashree.
Commenting on PM Narendra Modi-led union government, minister Umashree said, ‘Newspaper reports say that all the hopes on PM Modi-led government have gone in vein. It is the duty of every government to protect the interests of the farmers and their farmlands. If the union government tries to impose land acquisition ordinance in the state, the state government will oppose it,’ said minister Umashree.
Terming the protest of Anganawadi workers as meaningless, the minister Umashree said that the Anganawadis are not being privatized. Similar to the Akshara Dasoha, the new rules aim to give some importance to gram panchayats in running Anganwadis. ‘Even though I have told the facts and figures to the office bearers of the Anganawadi workers, they are not ready to listen and change their mindset,’ added minister Umashree.
The former mayor Hilda Alva, District Congress Committee in-charge president Ibrahim Kodijal, ZP member Mamata Gatti, Congress leaders Jacinta Alfred, Stany Alvares, Kripa Alva, deputy mayor Kavita Vasu and others were present.
