Mangaluru Bishop condemns RSS Chief’s remarks on Mother Teresa
Mangaluru, 25 Feb 2015: RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat’s statement on Mother Teresa has drawn huge flak from a major section of the society, especially the Catholic community. Bishop of Mangaluru Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza in a press release condemning the statement of the RSS leader has expressed his grief over the issue.
Bhagwat recently said that that ’conversion’ was the real motive behind Mother Teresa’s service to the poor and the downtrodden.
“Mother Teresa’s service would have been good. But it used to have one objective, that is to convert the person who was being served, to Christianity,” he said while speaking at a function organised near Bharatpur by NGO Apna Ghar.
In the release, the Bishop stated that the whole world recognized Mother Teresa’s service to the mankind adding that the RSS leader’s statement was an insult to the soul of the Mother whose service is considered as an example for others to emulate.
He also urged for the arrest of those who hurled stones at the statues of Mother Mary and Infant Jesus at St Joseph Vaz prayer centre at Panir on February 24. He requested the government and the police to provide additional security to places of worship.
