Udupi: Rumours of Underworld don Bannanje Raja’s arrest, tops cops still tight-lipped

Udupi, 11 Feb 2015: The rumours on arrest of notorious underworld don Bannanje Raja, a native of Udupi district in Casablanca, Morocco are circulating in social networking media, while the top cops of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts are tight-lipped about the high profile arrest on Tuesday February10.
It is said that Raja had tried to extort Rs 5 crore from an hotelier in India, who instead informed the police about the same. Soon the Intelligence wing, which plunged into action, passed on the message to the RAW, who nabbed Raja from Morocco.
The forty-year-old Bannanje Raja is the son of Sundar Shettigar and Vilasini couple, residing in Udupi district. He has done BA from one of the reputed college in Udupi. The earliest case relating to Bannanje Raja appears was registered when he was studying PUC at Poornaprajna College, here that he threw a member of his rival camp to the ground floor from the first floor of College in 1990. He escaped after being arrested in a murder case relating to a certain Vittal Shetty of Kokkarne village, near here later.
He began working with Mandovi Motors in Udupi and later, as a bus agent. He migrated to Bengaluru thereafter and there too, functioned as a bus agent for some time. He was operating from an unknown location in a from a foreign country.
