Bantwal, 29 Jan 2015: The splendour of Tulu culture is not solely limited to Tulunadu. The natives of Tulu are influential in businesses worldwide. The dream of separate homeland Tulunadu can only be realised by united efforts of Tulu natives by striving to promote mother tongue Tulu, literature and culture, said Swami Gurudevanand of Odiyoor mutt.

Swami Gurudevanand was speaking during valedictory ceremony of Tulu Sammelan held at Odiyoor, here on Wednesday January 28.

‘I am happy that the Tulu Sammelan was concluded with high note,’ said Swami Gurudevanand. As per the Tulu scholars’ advice, Tulu Makkala Sammelan will be held in Odiyoor in 2016. The earnest efforts should be made to create interest about Tulu and its literature among the children, added Swami Gurudevanand.

Rani Abbakka Tulu Study Centre chairman Professor Tukaram Poojary in his valedictory address said, ‘Tulu traditional practices and worship is based on agrarian culture. It can only be sustained by farming. Tulu has the future with its up-to-date literature. Tulu has the history since 6 BC, while its classic status is a distant dream owing to lack of political will. The need of the hour is to create mass awareness in this regard,’ said Professor Poojary.

Akhila Bharat Kannada Sahitya Parishat former president philanthropist Harikrishna Punaroor ws the chief guest, urged Tulu natives to wage struggle against mushrooming of polluting heavy industries in coastal district.

Tulu Koota Odiyoor ® president Malar Jayaram Rai welcomed the gathering. Odiyoor Gurudev School teachers Jayaprakash Shetty, Sharada, Saishwari D Shetty introduced the dignitaries. Akashwani – Mangalore assistant director litterateur Dr Vasant Kumar Perla proposed vote of thanks. Tulu scholar Dayanand G Kattalsar compered the programme.

Tulu musical concert was presented by Tonse Pushkal Kumar group and Tulu play ‘Paanchavati’ was staged as part of entertainment programme.

Prashant Shetty (Chitramitra) presented his artistic skills on the same occasion.
