Mangaluru: Riders for Helmets awareness picks up in city

Mangaluru, 27 Jan 2015: On the occasion of the 66th Republic Day, City Centre Mall in collaboration with RevlimiterZ, United Bikers of Mangaluru and Super Souls organized a ‘Riders for Helmets’ awareness programme here on Tuesday January 27 at 10.30am.

 

The chief guests unfurled the national flag and then had a stage function where all public and bikers were welcomed and the reason why the programme was being arranged was announced.

 

After the addressing of the gathering, Vikas, a renowned motor racer from Tata Motors also spoke and gave a few pointers on the aspect of Road Safety and its importance in today’s world. Immediately after the lamp lighting an Appeal on making the roads of Mangaluru, safer for all bikers, motorists and pedestrians, with examples of existing roads that are waiting disasters, was handed over to MLC Ivan Dsouza.

The dignitaries then flagged-off the rally, and the motorcyclists took off on a predetermined route in disciplined 2-laning riding. The first stop at Jyoti circle and everybody stopped for a short street play. While traffic n onlookers watched on Super Souls team took on the roads and demonstrated how Helmets can save lives.

 

The next stop at Lal Bagh bus stand also had a street play going that captured the interest of the general public. After this the entire team took the M G Road stretch back to City Centre Mall where the final street play was held on the centre of the road.

 

After this, all the participants of United Bikers of Mangaluru that included The Revlimiterz, Pulsar Naked Wolves, Yamaha Riders Club, the Mangaluru Jawa Yezdi Motorcycle Club and the Orange Falcons, lined up on stage and then solemnly took The Bikers Pledge that was administered by Shawn Fernandez.

 

After the refreshments break, all team members headed out onto the porch where the 2 competitions were held. First up was the Figure of 8 competitions that was won by both Sameer from Naked Wolves and Akshay from Revlimiterz. Immediately after was the slow race between the two earlier winners that would decide who the Grand winner would be. The prize of a brand new ATK helmet was won by Akshay.
