Mangaluru: Republic Day celebrated on high note in district

Mangaluru, 26 Jan 2015: The sixty-sixth Republic Day was celebrated on a high note the district administration at Nehru Maidan here on Monday, January 26. Spectacular march fast, vintage cars were special attractions of the march fast.

 
The state forests and DK district-in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai hoisted the national flag and rendered his Republic Day message.

 
The minister Rai, in his Republic Day message said, ‘With the aim to raise the underground water table the state government is mulling to approve the ambitious Paschimavahini Project, which involves construction of dams across westward flowing rivers in the district,’ said minister Rai.

 
Under Gram Vikas Yojana, the state government has identified 5 villages in respective gram panchayats and has sanctioned funds to the gram panchayats in order to implement projects that will contribute to the all round development of these identified villages, added minister Rai.

Colourful March fast

 
The highlight of Republic Day celebrations held at Nehru Maidan here on Monday was the colourful march-past by various troops including Karnataka Reserve Police, CAR/DAR, civil police, traffic police, women police, home guards, fire brigades, NCC army (seniors), NCC naval (seniors), NCC air wing (seniors), NCC army (juniors), scouts and guides, road safety patrol (girls), Bharat Seva Dal (girls), road safety patrol (boys) and district police band. In the march-past competition, NCC naval (seniors) won the first place and NCC air wing (juniors) won the second place.

 
Sarvotham Seva Award was conferred on Ugrappa Nayak, Krishna, K Mohammed, Kanthappa Gowda, G Mary Tauro and Dr Rajesh.

 
Splash team along with 92.7 Big FM enthralled the gathering by drawing a portrait of the National Flag in just 5 minutes.

 
DK Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, mayor Mahabala Maarla, MLAs J R Lobo and B A Moideen Bawa, SP Dr Sharanappa, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Roy Castelino, MLC Ivan D’Souza, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy president Mohammad Haneef, CAMPCO president Konkodi Padmanabha and others were present on the occasion.
