Udupi: Minister U T Khader inaugurates Int’l Conference of Manipal College of Nursing

Udupi, 25 Jan 2015: Manipal College of Nursing (MCON) organized an international conference on ‘Evidence Informed Practice: An Approach to Healthcare Reform’ at DR TMA Pai Hall, Manipal University, Manipal, here from Saturday January 24 to Sunday January 25.
Karnataka state health and family welfare minister U T Khader was the chief guest of the occasion, inaugurated the conference in the presence of vice-chancellor of Manipal University, heads of constituent institutions of Manipal University, International/ National speakers as well as the delegates of the conference on Saturday at 11.00am.
Dr Anice George, dean of Manipal College of Nursing and director of Nursing Education, Manipal University briefed about the institution, the founding principal Professor P P Bhanumathi and the late Professor Aparna Bhaduri, and all those who have contributed significantly to the development of the college. She also spoke regarding the steadfast growth of the college and the college celebrating its 25 years of glorious existence.
The minister U T Khader appreciated and congratulated the management of MCON for organizing the two-day international conference. He hoped that this conference deliberation would help in building a network of nurses, so in the longer run patients will be given efficient care.
He also said said, ‘The Hospital can run without doctors, but a hospital, can’t be run without the nurses,’ affirming, ‘Nursing is a noblest profession of all” He called upon the nurses to remember their pledge, when in service.’
‘It is not what you treat, but how you treat. The society needs you” he told them. He congratulated MCON as one of the model college among the numerous colleges in Karnataka and also in the world. He also emphasized to the nursing delegates present in the gathering, to give awareness along with other treatment measures they provide to their patients. This he said would go a long way in preventing illness among common people,’ said minister Khader.
Dr K Ramnarayan, vice-chancellor of Manipal University presided the function and released the Abstract book: Evidence from the portals of MCON and addressed the gathering.
Dr Ramnarayan further said, ‘Conferences should be able to first inspire, then influence and finally inform the delegates. He also voiced his concern, that this is an age of Heutagogy, where students don’t want to be told what and how to study; he wished that resource persons of the conference to share their expertise by engaging the audience with enthusiastic explanation and evoke interest in the subject being taught.’
Dr TresseyTreesa Jose, Professor and organizing secretary of the international conference gave an overview of the conference.
Dr Judith A Noronha, associate dean of MCON proposed the vote of thanks. Lakra Alma Juliet Francis, associate professor of MCON compered the programme.
The district health officer was also present on the occasion.
