Rajkot, 13 Jan 2015: In a shocking development, a couple from Maharashtra attempted to kill their three daughters before trying to end their own lives in the city on Monday. All of them are being treated in a private hospital.
Police said that Sujal Rewali (45) and his wife Arohi (40) first gave a poisonous substance to their three daughters Sanjna (14), Tanya (11) and Aayan (9) and then consumed the same substance at their residence on the second floor of Silver Nest Apartment near Indira Circle on the University Road. Sujal runs tuition classes for mathematics at his residence.
Sources said that the matter came to light when a person identified as Kamlesh came to Rewali’s residence to meet him. On reaching the residence, when no one opened the door even after repeated knockings and ringing of doorbell on the door, he suspected foul play and informed the neighbors and police.
Gandhigram police rushed to the spot and broke the front door to get access to the house. As soon as the police personnel and others went inside, they found all the five family members lying in an unconscious condition. Police also found blood oozing from their hands. It is suspected that they may have tried to cut the veins of everyone after consuming the poisonous substance.
"All five were rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. They are under observations and all of them seem to be out of danger. We have launched a probe to find out the reason behind their extreme step. Primarily, it seems that the family was facing economic crisis. But the exact details would emerge once any of them regains consciousness," said police commissioner Mohan Jha.
