Puttur: Officer-Consumer’ Interaction Programme at St Philomena College

Puttur, Dec 22, 2014: Dakshina Kannada District Federation of Consumer Organizations®, Suraksha Consumer Forum of St Philomena College and Souharda Consumer Club of Government Pre University College, Kombettu, here jointly organized an Interactive Programme on ‘Officer-Consumer’ at SJM Hall of St Philomena College here on Saturday December 20.
The inaugurator Fr Antony Prakash Monteiro, campus director and chairperson of PG Studies and Research during the occasion said, ‘We are always concerned about our rights, but we should also remember that we have certain responsibility to discharge.’
He further said, ‘We have to look into corruption happening around us, try to take measure to correct this unlawful activity and bring about the change in the society.’
Professor Leo Noronha, principal of the College in his presidential address said, ‘Man is a social being and we need to work together in the society. Therefore mutual benefits are shared. In the present society consumers are taken for a ride, it is very important for the consumers to be aware of their rights. This is the platform where many of the consumers will be guided.’
The officials of 3 government departments have participated in this programme.
Kulle Gowda M T, Tahsildar of Puttur taluk presented the nature and working of the revenue department. Abdul Khadar, sub-inspector of Puttur town police station, spoke about the functioning of the police department. Jayakara B Shetty, statistical officer and Timmappa Patali, traffic controller of KSRTC Puttur ivision, presented about the working and the facilities available in KSRTC.
The members of Suraksha Consumer Forum and Souharda Consumer Club raised questions to the government officials relating to the facilities available to the consumers.
M J Salian, president of Dakshina Kannada District Federation of Consumer Organizations® moderated this interactive programme.
Vishnu P Nayak, secretary of DK District Federation of Consumer Organizations, Professor Vishnu Bhat, vice principal, Dr A P Radhakrishna, head of department of physics, Anjali Rai, head of department of journalism of the College were present.
ShreeRaksha, Chinmai, Shruti and Chaitra of I BCom with their prayer song invoked prayers. Professor Dinakar Rao, director of Suraksha Consumer Forum welcomed the gathering. Sushmitha of I B Com proposed the vote of thanks. Kotyappa Poojary, convener of Souharda Consumer Club compered the programme.
