Puttur: Christmas Get-together at St Philomena College

Puttur, 22 Dec 2014: Christmas can be a season of great joy. It is a time of God showing His great love for us. It can be a time of healing and renewed strength. Christmas is when we celebrate the birth of the Christ child. God sent His Son, Jesus, into the world to be born. His birth brought great joy to the world. In order to share the happiness of Christmas, St Philomena College, here organized a Christmas get-together at their silver jubilee memorial hall here on Friday December 19.
 
To mark this special day the dignitaries cut the cake.
 
Fr Antony Prakash Monteiro, campus director and chairperson of PG Studies and Research Centre, in his introductory address said that whoever has supported the development of our college activities are the members of our family and to celebrate Christmas with them is really a privilege. Christmas is not only a celebration for a Christians but also for everyone. He concluded by blessing and wishing everyone to have a peaceful, holy and a happy Christmas.

 

 

Speaking on the occasion, Mahalingeshwar temple managing trustee Nanya Achutha Mudithaya said, ‘Having born as a human being we should know the responsibilities and grow with humanitarian traits. The spirit of Christmas or any other festival should not only remain as a celebration instead the value of the festival should be adopted in everybody’s life.’

 

The municipal councilor Jagadish Shetty Nellikatte said that Christianity in its prayer as well as their personal behaviour propagates peace and coexistence.
 
Professor B J Suvarna, former head of department of physics of the College said, ‘Christmas is celebrated worldwide irrespective of any religion. The speciality of Christianity is that the Lord Almighty himself was born as a human being to spread the message of love, peace and happiness.’
 
Professor Suvarna also said, ‘In the present day when there is so much of insecurity and terrorism activities, Christmas, Deepavali and Iftar provides bit of solace to the disturbed minds.’
 
Ganesh Rao, the president of Parent Teachers Association of St. Philomena College, Jayakumar M R, the president of Alumni Association, Sr Amirita, head teacher of Bethany School, GopalaKrishna Bhat, manager of Corporation Bank, Darbe, were also present.

 

Sahana Rao and group of St Philomena PU College sang the prayer song. Professor Leo Noronha, the principal of St Philomena College welcomed the gathering. Fr Vijay Lobo, principal of St Philomena PU College proposed the vote of thanks. Anjali Rai, head of department of journalism compered the programme.
