Puttur: Workshop on Vermi-Composting at St Philomena College

Puttur, 16 Dec 2014: The department of zoology of St Philomena College, here organized a workshop on Vermi-technology at their Prerana Hall, here on Tuesday December 16.
The retired head of department of zoology of St Aloysius College, Mangalore Dr Harish Joshi was the resource person said, ‘Vermi-culture deals with the management of waste through worms. Vermi-composting can change the waste into value and thrash into cash. People from Kerala to Goa have been using this technology as the source of income.’
Dr Harish further said the students that 80 percent of waste contains organic organisms. Vermin-composting is like a magic that can make the world green. He called upon the students to make vermin-composting as a hobby and not to let the waste go waste.
Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro , campus director and chairman of PG Studies and Research Centre urged the students to make the best out of the workshop, draw an action plan and implement it in the campus.
The College principal Professor Leo Noronha in his presidential address said, ‘All of us should join hands and making use of all our talents we can turn the waste into a fund of wealthy. Let us all get ourselves involved in the noble project of ‘Vermi-composting’ and preserve our earth.’
Dr Harish demonstrated the several ways of vermin-culture, a simple technology of saving the earth.
The College head of department of zoology Meenakshi and body lecturer Nagaraj were also present.
