Mangaluru, Dec 05, 2014: BJP women wing staged a protest rally and Jail Baro, at A B Shetty roundabout here on Thursday December 4, condemning the inability of state administration to curb rising women atrocities.
Dakshina Kannada district BJP women wing president Mallika Prasad slammed the state government and specifically home minister K J George in this regard.
Addressing the protesters, Mallika Prasad said, ‘The home minister and Chief Minister have been extremely negligent when it comes to atrocities on women. When asked about the attack on woman inside an ATM kiosk, minister George said it was not his duty and that the Deputy Commissioner of that district is answerable. When CM Siddaramaiah was asked about the increasing rape cases, he retaliated whether the media has nothing to work on. We condemn such negligence from our ministers. If they are not capable of protecting the rights of the public, they should step down. The home minister will be held responsible in this regard and demand his resignation.’
Commenting on a few schemes of the state government Mallika Prasad said, ‘We don’t need ‘Ksheera Bhagya’ instead we need ‘Sheela Bhagya’ (safeguard women’s modesty) and that the Congress-led state administration has failed to achieve this. The police are in grip of corrupt politicians. At this situation, expecting protection and justice from them is unjustified.’
BJP women wing state vice president Sulochana G K Bhat, Sharin Subbayya, Kodagu zilla panchayat president Kanti Belliyappa and others were present on the occasion.
