MIA Runway extension: Govt approves acquiring of 210 acre
Mangaluru, 04 Dec 2014: The state government has accorded approval for acquiring 210 acres of land required to extend Mangalore International Airport runway, informed Mangalore International Airport Director J T Radhakrishna on Wednesday, December 3.
Speaking to media Radhakrishna said "an additional sum of Rs 120 crore is required for undertaking extension work. A proposal in this connection has already been sent to the principal secretary of infrastructure (Government of Karnataka). A proposal has also been sent to extend the 8,000 ft runway to 11,000 ft."
Domestic Cargo to start on March 2015
The MIA is also mulling to start domestic cargo services by March 2015, Radhakrishna said.
In this regard Deccan Park building which is located near MIA has been transferred to the government. This building will be developed for handling domestic cargo, he added.
