Mangaluru: Residents of Jokatte hold street protest against MRPL polluting environment

Mangaluru, Dec 03, 2014: The residents of Jokatte, near here on Wednesday December 3 held street protest urging the closure of sulphur and coke units at the Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemical Limited (MRPL) Phase III plant that has been causing environmental pollution in their neighbourhood.
Since the police had denied the protesters to observe Jokatte bandh on Wednesday December 3, which forced them to hold march and stage protest in front of the main gate of MRPL here.
The protesters allege that since the commissioning of MRPL Phase III plant, the local residents are suffering from respiratory problems to dermatological ailments.
The locals allege that despite their pleas to district administration, local MLA and ministers, to shut down sulphur and coke units of MRPL, none of them were bothered to address their grievances that forced them to hold street protest.
