Udupi: Rotary & Catholic Sabha - Shankarapura embarks on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

Udupi, 30 Nov 2014: A large scale public awareness programme was jointly organised by Rotary Club of Shankerapura and Catholic Sabha, Shankerpura in association with JCI Shankerapura Jasmine and other associated organizations regarding the menace of dumping waste and littering plastics on the main roads. 
 
The event was inaugurated by Fr Leslie D’Souza, parish priest of St John the Evangelist parish, Shankerpura.
 
Fr Leslie D’Souza urged the people to organise such programmes to create awareness on sensible disposal of garbage.
 
Speaking on this occasion, Katapady gram panchayat president Vinay Ballal said that if the garbage disposal is not efficiently managed, it will give rise to contagious diseases. The garbage disposal should be the topmost priority of every village councils.
 
The earnest interest of general public is essential in this regard, said St John’s Pre-University College principal Fr Vincent Coelho.
 
Kurkal gram panchayat president Bhuvanesh Poojary said that it is necessary to create mass awareness among the people by organising such campaigns.
 
The awareness programme was jointly organised by Nagarika Samiti, Inner Wheel Club Shankerapura, Rotaract Club, Subhasnagar, RCC Kunjarugiri and different social welfare and voluntary organizations.

 

Rotary Shankerapura director Nandan Kumar delivered introductory address. Rotary Shankerapura president Jerome Rodrigues welcomed the gathering. Catholic Sabha, Shankerapura president Juliet D’Souza proposed vote of thanks.
 
Rotary district assist governor M G Nagendra, JCI Jasmine president Oliver Rebello, Inner Wheel president Monica Saldanha, Rotaract Subhash Nagar president Sumalata, and RCC Kunjargiri past president Ravi were present.

 

The members of different social welfare and voluntary organizations, and general public gathered the pile of garbage, strewn plastic that was lying on road sides to create general awareness on the perils of garbage.
