Udupi/M’Belle: Annual Day and Prize Distribution function held in St. Lawrence PU College

Udupi/M’Belle, 28 Nov 2014: The annual day and prize distribution function held in St. Lawrence PU College on Friday, 28 November 2014. The prize distribution function held at 2.15 pm was presided over by Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions. Mrs. L. Gracy Gonsalves, Deputy Director of Women and Children Welfare Department, Udupi was the chief guest. Rev. Fr. Lawrence D’Almeida, Parish priest of St. Vincent De Paul Church, Katapadi was the guest of honour. Other dignitaries on the dais included Rev. Fr. Paul Sequeira, Principal of St. Lawrence PU College, Mrs. Sarojini Kamath, headmistress of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School, Alphonse K. Alva, Vice President of Parish pastoral Council, J. B. Miranda, member of Managing Committee, Joseph Martis, President of Parent-Teachers Association and Clive Quadros, College Pupil Leader (CPL).
The prize distribution function began with prayer and welcome dance presented by the students. Following the welcome address by Mrs. Sarojini Kamath, Mrs. Jacintha Lobo, lecturer of Commerce in St. Lawrence PU College introduced the chief guest-Mrs. L. Gracy Gonslaves. Born in Mangalore, Mrs. Gracy Gonslves after acquiring MSW degree joined as an officer in the Women and Children Welfare Department at Davanagere in 1985. She served in the same capacity at Sullia, Puttur and Bantwal from 1989 to 2005. She was promoted as Senior Assistant Officer in Women and Children Welfare Department in 2012 and was appointed as the Deputy Director of Women and Children Welfare department at Udupi District in 2014. She is married to Lawrence Gonslaves of Puttur.
Charles Quadros introduced the guest of honour, Rev. Fr. Lawrence D’Almeida who is presently the Parish Priest of St. Vincent De Paul Church, Katapadi. Hailing from Attinja in Moodubelle parish, Rev. Fr. Lawrence D’Almeida after completing PUC in St. Mary’s College, Shirva joined the Holy Cross Order and served in the mission centres of the Holy Cross Order before being appointed as the Parish Priest of Katapadi.
Rev. Fr. Paul Sequeira presented the report of the academic year 2014-15 highlighting the achievement of the institution in academic, curricular and extra-curricular activities.
First, prizes in curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular including sports achievements were distributed to the students of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School. While John Castelino read out the names of the students in the curricular and co-curricular achievements, Valerian Casta, the Physical Instructor read the names of the students from the list of the sports achievers. Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Mrs. L. Gracy Gonsalves, J.B. Miranda and Alphonse K. Alva distributed t prizes to the achiever students.
In her message, Mrs. L. Gracy Gonslaves said that the students of high school and PU College are in the second stage of their student life which is quite crucial in many respects. She also briefly explained the role of the Women and Children Welfare Department in helping the students who face different problems.
Devaraya Shanbagh, lecturer of Mathematics in PU College read the names of the students who had excelled in academics. Joseph D’Souza, the Physical Director read the names of the students who had achieved success in sporting field. Rev. Fr. Paul Sequeira, Mrs. Sarojini Kamath, Rev. Fr. Lawrence D’Almeida and Joseph Martis distributed prizes to the successful students.
Speaking at this occasion, Rev. Fr. Lawrence D’Almeida complimented the students for their achievements in academics and sports and said that the students should always develop a positive attitude and use their education for laying a strong foundation for their future.
In his presidential address, Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes appreciated the good results that the institution had secured this year and congratulated the Principal, teaching staff and the students for their achievements.
Clive Quadros proposed the vote of thanks. The entire prize distribution function was anchored by the PU students-Amrit and Pavitra.
