Shrine of Saint Pope John Paul II to be opened on Nov 27
Bajpe, 26 Nov 2014: In memory of the visit of Saint Pope John Paul II to Mangaluru, a shrine built in his name will be inaugurated on Thursday, November 27 by Rev. Salvatore Pennachio, the Papal Nuncio to India.
The parishioners of Bajpe Church, under the leadership of Parish Priest Fr Leo Lobo, have built the shrine at the place where the saint visited Mangalore on February 6, 1986. The shrine has been constructed at a cost of about Rs. 1.5 crore. With an attractive 6 ft tall statue of Pope John Paul II, given by Rev. Pennachio, the shrine is a feast for eyes as well.
The inauguration also adds to the celebration of the canonization of Late Pope John Paul II by Pope Francis on April 27 this year. Canonization is the act by which the Catholic Church declares a deceased person to be a saint, upon which the person is included in the canon, or list, of recognized saints.
