Mangaluru, 26 Nov 2014: Karnataka state backwards classes awareness Forum in collaboration with CPI (M), Dalit Rights Struggle Committee and Karnataka Adivasa Rakshana Parashattu, staged protest in front of Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Tuesday November 25, against the evil practice of Made Snana, rolling over the left over food of upper caste by lower caste people at Kukke Subramanya temple in Puttur taluk.
Swami Navalinga Mahasharana of Prabhudeva Jnana Kendra, Shivamogga condemning the controversial ritual said, ‘We have developed a scientific temperament but still few rituals which divide the society in the name of caste have prevailed. Being educated citizens of the nation, we cannot allow it to be continued. Such practices promote the unjust rule of high class and low class in society. It is a necessity to cleanse the discriminatory, exploitative practices of religion. The enforcement of the anti-superstitious law is essential to get rid of all such practices.’
The Karnataka State Backward Classes Awareness Forum president K S Shivaramu who strongly opposed the practise said, ‘The government must ban such practices. We are not against Brahmins but we oppose the practices of Brahmins who engage themselves in enforcing certain rituals on low class people.’
‘Pejavar Sree who is supposed to lead the community with his ideals is creating confusions in society by giving various statements on the ritual. If he cannot speak up against the rituals which are meant to spoil the peace of society, its better he stays out of everything and focuses on his religious practices,’ added Shivaramu.
Swamy Tipperudra of Gowli mutt, Chitradurga; Swami Basavabhushan of Gurubasava mutt, Siraguppa and Swami Basava Muruga Rajendra Sharana, Chitradurga were present along with hundreds of supporters on the occasion.
