Modi showers praises on Mangaluru-born Australian politician Shilpa Hegde
Mangaluru, 24 Nov 2014: The entire world is mesmerised by the ’Modi Magic’, but during his Australia tour, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi seems to have been immensely impressed by an Indian.
The Indian is none other than Shilpa Hegde, a resident of Australia hailing from Perdoor.
Hegde is the first Indian woman to have contested and won the Australian Parliamentary polls from Liberal Party ticket.
"May your political career be bright and fruitful," Modi wished Shilpa, who was clad in an Indian attire, showcasing the Indian cultural legacy during the official dinner organised for Modi by Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott at Melbourne Cricket Club grounds on November 18.
Shilpa is the grand daughter of Dr M R Hegde from Perdoor. An engineer by profession, she was born in Mangalore.
She is married to Dayanand Shetty and has two sons named Nihal and Sahil. Shilpa has been living in Melbourne since 2001.
