Mangaluru: Gold haul at city airport; customs seize worth over Rs 18 lac

Mangaluru, 21 Nov 2014: The officers of customs at Mangalore International Airport have busted another modus operandi of gold smuggling and in 2 separate cases, seized gold weighing 699.900 grams totally valued at over Rs 18 lac.
In the first case, the officers seized gold in the form of 2 numbers of 10 tola gold bars, totally weighing 233.300 grams and valued at over Rs 6 lac. The gold bars were secreted in the rectum by the passenger thirty-seven-year-old Azees Sulaiman, son of Suleiman, residing at House Number 8/346, Kallingal House, Udma, Padinchar Post, Kasargod, Kerala, who arrived at Mangalore International Airport Air India Express flight number IX814 from Dubai on Friday November 21 at about 7.45am.
In a similar case on the same day and same flight, the officers seized gold in the form of a cylindrical rod-shaped object, weighing 466.600 grams and valued at over Rs 12 lac. The gold object was secreted in the rectum, by the passenger forty-two-year-old Abdul Hameed Muttathody, son of Abdulla Abdul Rahiman, Albaithul Jifiry House, XXXII-141A, Teenage Street, Village Adkathbail, Kasargod, Kerala.
