Mangaluru: Suraksha Bandhan - unique program attracts attention in city

Mangaluru, Nov 18, 2014: The volunteers of Child line here on Monday November 17 celebrated an unique program called Suraksha Bandhan as a part of ’Childline se Dosti’ week.

 

The children who have come to tie Rakhi to the city Police Commissioner tied rakhi to G V Subramanyam, Assistant Commissioner of Police in the police headquarters City Police Commissioner was away and later tied rakhis to all the police personnel present.

 

Renny D’Souza, director of Pady, a collaborative agency of Childline, speaking to media persons, said Suraksha Bandha has been organized to reinforce the mutual trust with police department during the child protection process. The children have simultaneously gone to all the police stations and tied Rakhis to all the police staff present.

 

 

Last year, we had Suraksha Bandhan to staff of two police stations in the city while next year we are planning to expand this to the police stations of the whole district, said Renny.

 

When asked about the activities of child line in taluk centres of Puttur and Sullia, Renny said, ‘Right now we are working as per the city centred model and our operations are limited to city limits. In other districts, they also have rural model along with the city model and we have proposed to implement the same in our district too,’ said Renny.

 

When asked about the aims in the Child line Week, Renny said, ‘At present, we want to have at least 10 volunteers of Child line in every ward of the city. In this way, we will have a minimum of 600 volunteers and this will help the cause,’ said Renny.
