Udupi/M’Belle: Hundred candidates receive the Sacrament of Confirmation from Bishop Dr. Gerald

Udupi/M’Belle, 16 Nov 2014: Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, the Bishop of Udupi Diocese administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to 100 candidates in St. Lawrence Church, Moodubelle on Sunday, 16 November 2014 during the 7.30 am mass. The solemn Confirmation Mass was concelebrated by the Bishop along with Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Roshan D’Souza, Assistant Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Reginald Pinto, Director of Sampada, Udupi Diocese and Rev. Fr. P. Raj, Principal of St. Lawrence English Medium High School.
The 100 candidates who received the Sacrament of Confirmation have been preparing for the special day for three months by learning Catechism appropriate for receiving Confirmation Sacrament. Prior to the mass, the candidates along with the altar servers, priests and the Bishop came in procession and the candidates occupied the special space reserved for them. The candidates themselves animated the liturgy of the day.
After preliminary proceedings prior to the administration of the Sacrament of Confirmation, the candidates held lighted candles and reaffirmed their faith by pronouncing the Baptismal promises.
In his homily, though examples from the Holy Scriptures and day today life, the Bishop pointed out the role of the Holy Spirit in transforming the life of an individual as well as the community. He said that through the Sacrament of Confirmation, the candidates would be receiving the Holy Spirit who would guide them through their life and future.
Thereafter, the Bishop administered the Sacrament of Confirmation individually to the 100 candidates.
At the end of the mass, addressing the congregation, the Bishop expressed gratitude to the parish priest and his team and the parishioners in general for according to him a grand welcome when he arrived for the Pastoral Visit on the previous day.
Miss Gladys D’Souza who had secured second rank in MA (History) in Mangalore University was honoured by the Bishop.
Later, the Bishop along with the concelebrants of the mass posed for group pictures with the Confirmation Candidates.
