Udupi: Konkani is classic language of India every Konkan should proud off - Roy Castelino

Udupi, 09 Nov 2014: Konkani is no more a regional language. Konkani originated from Indo-Aryan and it’s a classic language in the country. Konkani has equal status among 22 languages that are included in eighth schedule of Indian Constitution. Every Konkan should be proud as we belong to such a significant community, said Roy Castelino,m president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy.
Roy was speaking during the valedictory function of children’s camp ‘Aaz ami Konknni ulovyan’ held at Balkunje parish premises, near here recently.
Balkunje parish priest Fr Michael D’Silva, Mukamar parish priest Fr Victor D’Souza, Balkunje parish council vice president Patrick Pinto, Jubilee Committee president Nelson Lobo, ICYM central Committee president Melrida Rodrigues, Balkunje parish ICYM unit president Rohit D’Souza, local convener Royston Kiran D’Souza, Daiji Dubai Mangalore unit office bearers inaugurated the camp by beating the freshly-harvested-bay on the thrashing-table.
The dignitaries felicitated one-hundred-six-year-old Balkunje parishioner Joseph Menezes on the same occasion.
Fr Michael D’Silva planted a sapling of jackfruit tree in the backyard of Balkunje parish to commemorate the camp.
The camp participants 100 children were divided into 4 groups led by 4 mentors who educated the children on splendor of Konkani household family, the traditional household items, cow-pen, barn, bay, yolk, wooded area, hillocks, vegetation, wild fruits, plantation, stream, vegetable crop, etc.
Konkani activists Vitori Karkal, Ancy Paladka and Nelson Kateel held different games and quiz at the courtyard of Robert and Sara D;Souza couple after the lunch. Lawrence Palimar presented Konkani music, while Dolla Manglur enthralled them with rib-tickling jokes and mimicry.
Konkani renowned writer Paul Balkunje was felicitated during the valedictory function held at parish premises in the evening. Fr Michael D’Silva, Fr Victor D’Souza, Konkani veteran litterateur K G Mallya and others were present.
The parishioners of Balkunje and Kinnigoli presented cultural show on the same occasion.
The camp convener Melvyn Rodrigues delivered the introductory address. Hemacharya welcomed the gathering. Daiji Dubai Mangalore unit convener CGS Taccode proposed vote of thanks. Vitori Karkal, Royston Kiran D’Souza and Frieda Rodrigues compered the programme.
