Mangaluru: Bendore parish wins inter-parish football tourney; Cordel parish wins lagori tourney

Mangaluru, 09 Nov 2014: Holy Cross parish, Cordel, Kulshekar organized inter-parish football and lagori tournament for PUC and below age category of city deanery at Cordel parish grounds here on Saturday November 8. The tournament was themed as Play for Mission.

Cordel parish priest Fr Valerian Pinto inaugurated the tournament by unveiling the trophies here on Saturday morning.

Four Winds Communications proprietor Elias Fernandes, Cordel parish council vice president Praveen Patrao, secretary Michael D’Souza, youth and cultural Committee convener Susheel Noronha, Cordel parish Young Christian Students (YCS) Association president Alan D’Souza, secretary Sweeny D’Silva were present at the dais.

Fr Anil Lobo prayed for the success of the tournament. Cordel parish YCS animator Melvyn Fernandes compered the programme.

 

There were 20 teams of football and 17 teams of lagori from different parishes of city deanery. Football was for boys and lagori was for girls. It was a mixture of both international and local games. YCS unit of Cordel parish innovated on organizing this colorful event.

 

Bendore parish team won the football championship trophy. Gurpur parish team was runner up.

 
Cordel parish team won the lagori championship trophy. Ashoknagar parish team was runner up.

 

Alan Rasquinha of Bendore parish bagged best player award in football tournament.  Rachael Crasto of Cordel parish bagged best player award in lagori.

 

Cordel parish YCS unit worked with missionary zeal and donated Rs 25,000 towards Mission Sunday.

 
Rainal Sequeira and Roshni Goveas compered the programme.
