Udupi, Oct 29, 2014: If everyone shuns hatredness and jealousy, loves fellowmen and strives for equality; the dream of empowered nation will be realised, said Bishop Dr Gerald I Lobo of Udupi.
Bishop Dr Lobo was speaking during all religious Deepavali celebration organized by Udupi Catholic diocese at Our Lady of Sorrows parish grounds, here on Monday October 27.
Nobody keep the lighted lamp in a corner, instead keeps it on lamp-stand to spread the light. Meanwhile, if the society shuns evils of hatredness and jealous, loves fellowmen and strives for equality, there would not be any doubt in realising the dream of empowered India, said Bishop Dr Lobo.
Swami Laxmivara of Shiroor was the chief guest said that all religious celebration of Deepavali promotes love and equality among the people of different faith in the society.
Moulana Imranulla Khan Mansoori of Jamia masjid – Malpe, near here said that light is symbol of knowledge. No religion in the world propagates hatredness and jealousy. Deepavali celebrations had to foster peace and harmony among the people of different faith, caste and creed in the society.
Udupi diocesan inter-religious cell director Fr William Martis, CSI Jubilee Church vicar Fr Steven Sarvottam, Sai Radha Group chairman Manohar Shetty was present.
Our Lady of Sorrows parish priest Fr Fred Mascarenhas welcomed the gathering. Alphonse D’Costa proposed vote of thanks. Fr Denis D’Sa compered the programme.
