Mangalore, Oct 16, 2014: The Communist Party of India (CPI) of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts staged a protest in front of the office of Deputy Commissioner here on Thursday October 16, against the hike in prices of essential commodities. It has alleged that PM Narendra Modi-led union government for trying to fool the people through their publicity-oriented programmes.

CPI district secretary P Sanjeev slammed the union government for hike in prices of essential commodities and said that the so called ‘Acche Din’ has come only for the capitalists and the rich, but not the common man who is being fooled by the government.

Addressing the protesters Sanjeev said, ‘The union government is not serious about the issues of the common man. The prices of the essential commodities have hiked more than they were before and the government is not ready to accept the fact. The same party which had promised to bring down the prices, before the general election is supporting the capitalists to increase the prices.

Why don’t the BJP leaders speak about the prices now? They are just trying to fool people. They are the publicity lovers. And the programs that are being organized are catchy and have no effect on the country. There is no difference between the present government and the former UPA government when it comes to the exploitation of the common man,’ said Sanjeev.

‘The union government has to take action over the agents to curd the increase in the prices. Even though the petrol prices have come down, the fares of public transport and essential commodities have not come down. If the union government does not take swift measures to control the prices, then it also has to face the consequences faced by the former government,’ cautioned Sanjeev.

CPI district president V Kukyan, secretaries H V Rao, V S Bejinja, B Shekar, Saraswati K  and others were present at the protest.
