Mangalore: MLC Ivan asserts to speak in Konkani during assembly meeting at Belgaum

Mangalore, 12 Oct 2014: ‘I am going to speak in Konkani during the legislative assembly meeting scheduled to be held in Belgaum and I have already suggested the assembly speaker to assign multi-lingual translator in this regard, said MLC Ivan D’Souza.
MLC Ivan was speaking during the seventy-first annual general body meeting of Konkani Natak Sabha held at Don Bosco Hall, here on Saturday October 11.
It would not be difficult to demand Konkani Natak Academy as I can collaborate with MLA J R Lobo in this regard, as Konkani has got the classic status being included in eighth schedule of Indian constitution, said MLA Ivan. Konkani is not a regional language, because Konkans are settled across the nation from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. Konkani is the official language of Goa, added MLC Ivan. He also offered assurance of demanding slot for Konkani in the proposed open-air auditorium in Mangalore and also support in reconstruction of Don Bosco Hall within his term, assured MLC Ivan.
