Mumbai: New York bus tragedy; last rites of Jotsna Poojary held at Thane (W)

Mumbai, 11 Oct 2014: The last rites of forty-three-year-old Jotsna Harischandra Poojary, a Mangalorean resident of Muktidham housing society, Srinagar, Wagle Industrial Estate, Thane (West), here who passed away in a tourist-bus mishap at Delaware, New York south, US on September 21 was held here on Friday October 10.
Jotsna was the daughter of Mangalore origin Raghav Alake and Sasiprabha couple settled in metro, married to Harischandra Krishna Poojary recently. Harischandra and Jotsna were settled in the central suburb of Thane, while Jotsna was travelled to New York on official work.
Harischandra is running a business in African nation of Tanzania, while Jotsna was employed as software engineer in a private IT company at SEEPZ, Andheri (East) since many years. She had renewed her passport recently and left to New York on official duty for 2 weeks. Jotsna and an elderly lady from Turkey among 49 passengers were passed away in a ghastly road mishap that occurred in a steep curve in Delaware, New York south. Although the tragedy took place on September 21, Jotsna battled for life at Christian Hospital, New York and breathed her last on October 2. The metropolitan police took custody of driver of ill fated bus, informed sources.
Harischandra and his brother rushed to New York and were besides Jotsna at the hospital and later co-ordinated the procedures in repatriating the dead body with Indian embassy and metropolitan police. They arrived along with body of Jotsna at Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Sahar, here on Friday October 10 morning.
Jotsna’s body was placed for family viewing at their residence and last rites were held at crematorium located in Wage Industrial Estate, Thane (West) here on Friday.
Jotsna is survived by her husband and one son, parents, sister-in-law and extended family.
