Puttur: Debate on Media-Hype Vs Truth held at St Philomena College

Puttur, Oct 01, 2014: The department of journalism of St Philomena College, here organised a debate on the topic, ‘Media- Hype Vs truth’ at Prerana Hall, here recently.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Leo Noronha said, ‘The main goal of a journalist is to provide truthful and important information to the people allowing them to form adequate impression about the society. It is the social responsibility of the journalist to maintain the ethical standards,’ said Professor Leo.
There were eight teams of two persons each. One was speaking for and other speaking against the motion. Some spoke on how media is turning towards sensationalism while the other argued that the media is just doing its job ethically of portraying the truth to the people.
The first prize was won by Sachu Siby, lll B Com and Elizabeth, ll BSc. The second prize was won by Fiona, l BSc and Ramyashree, l BSc and the third prize was won by Navaz, l BA and Mustafa, l BA.
