Mangalore: Vice President of India Hamid Ansari to arrive in city on Sep 21

Mangalore, Sep 19, 2014: The Vice-President of India M Hamid Ansari will arrive here on Sunday September 21 to take part in the valedictory ceremony of Catholic Association of South Kanara (CASK), the oldest Catholic lay organization in South India.
Addressing media conference here on Thursday September 18, CASK president Dr Derek Lobo said, ‘Mangalore Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza and patron of CASK will preside the program while Governor of Karnataka Vajubhai Vala and Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah will be the guests of honour,’ said Dr Lobo.
Dr Lobo further said that ministry of external affairs former secretary and ambassador retired Eric Gonsalves IFS and Karnataka circle chief postmaster general M S Ramanujan will also be present on the occasion.
CASK secretary Captain John Prasad Menezes and vice-presidents Ullhas Rasquinha and Nayana Fernandes, J B Monteiro were present at the media conference.
About CASK
The Catholic Association of South Kanara was established in July 1914 and registered under the Societies Act in 1925, thus it is celebrating its centenary this year.
CASK publishes a monthly magazine titled “Mangalore” since July 1927, one of the oldest monthly magazines in the country, with the credit of uninterrupted publication for 87 years.
The credit for establishing CASK in 1914 goes to the then Bishop Paul Perini, who is said to have encouraged the clergy and the laity to start an association to promote religious, economic and social welfare of the people and he later on went to become the first president of the association.
