Udupi, Sep 12, 2014: The students of the high school section of St. Lawrence Composite PU College, Moodubelle have cultivated a vegetable garden under the association named ‘Prakrithi Parisara Sangha’ with the guidance of its Coordinator, Mrs. Sunitha Kamath who is science teacher in the high school section. Besides normal vegetables, the garden also has medicinal plants.
The students themselves tend the garden by bringing manure from the neighbourhood. Each class has a section of the garden which the students nurture and take pride in the growth of the plants. These activities bring the students close to the nature and helps them in understanding in the protection of environment and also the dignity of labour.
The first batch of the vegetables were ceremoniously plucked by the Principal and senior teachers along with the students which were used for the mid-day meal. The teachers have played an important role by inspiring and encouraging the students to grow vegetables in the backyard of the school a practice which the students could emulate in their home-gardens. Along with education, it is important to teach the students the value of growing one’s own vegetables and fruits.
last week on the Teachers day celebration I happened to see the above vegitation garden and Fr. Paul, Principal proudly said Yes, this is done by our students with the guidence of a teacher.Under the Leadership and guidance of Fr. Paul and his team students are motivated to be all rounder. They are our role model.keep up the good work.
