Mangalore, Sep 12, 2014: Two students of Vivekananda College, Puttur who have failed in their final semester LLB exams conducted by Karnataka State Law University have blamed the irresponsible evaluation of their answer papers for their failure.

While addressing the media conference here on Thursday September 11 morning, one of the victim Asma pointed out that out of 28 students of her class more than 20 are facing similar issues. Majority of them are not coming out open due to the fear of actions by the university. To add to this the highest percentage of any student in the class is 56 percent which is truly horrifying, said Asma.

Another victim Prameela revealed a few more shocking facts regarding the evaluation of her second semester answer papers.

Prameela said, ‘I had failed in one of the subjects in the second semester and even after re-evaluation the result was the same. After I write the re-exam for the same subject I receive the marks card of the same semester with the PASS result. The working of the whole system of Karnataka State Law University is shocking,’ said Prameela.

The Human Rights and Corruption Eradication Association, Puttur taluk president Tahir Hussain pointed out negligence of evaluators when the evaluation of the answer sheets of the tenth semester of LLB exams.

Tahir said, ‘The students Asma and Prameela had appeared for final year LLB exam during June, 2014. The evaluation of the answer papers was done in Hubli. To the surprise of the students, both the students had failed in one subject each and even after the re-evaluation the result was same. When Asma obtained a copy of her answer sheet through RTI and consulted the lecturers of same college and another college they came to the conclusion that she was supposed to get 55 marks out of 100 compared to 28 after the re-evaluation. Even when the senior advocates were consulted they also shared the same view of the lecturers,’ said Tahir.

Tahir further said, ‘This seems to be the result of irresponsible evaluation of the answer papers and since it is the question of the future of the student the answer papers will have to be re-evaluated and justice has to be done to the respective students. And the concerned officials should take a stern action over the evaluator so that this mistake is not repeated in the future,’ said Tahir.

Both Asma and Prameela later informed that they will serve a notice to the university and a copy will be sent to the Governor and the state home minister and a writ petition regarding the result too will be filed in the High Court of Karnataka.

The Association secretary Chanda Rai, student Abdul Ansar was present at the occasion.
