Mangalore, 11 Sep, 2014: ’Love is blind’ has been proved by Wilson D’Souza by converting to Hinduism here, on September 9. Wilson Rakesh D’Souza (21), a resident of Bajal, fell in love with Shobini (18), a Jain, a year ago. Later on May 30, 2014 they got married in the court without the knowledge of their parents. Shobini after marrying Wilson started to live with him in Bajal.
Shobini’s father Niranjan was against this marriage. He had warned his daughter several times to leave Wilson and come back but Shobini was adamant to leave her husband whom she loved very much.
Niranjan filed a complaint in the rural police station against Wilson of kidnapping his daughter. The police went to Wilson’s house and asked them to come to the police station. Wilson and Shobini, as they had become husband and wife in the court on May 30, went to the court to confirm their marriage once again.
Niranjan tried his best to separate his daughter from Wilson but Shobini refused to leave him and return to her parents.
When the couple appeared before the court the judge permitted them to stay together as they are mature and the marriage was legal. The court also ordered them to appear before the court on September 9.
When this news spread, Bajrang Dal activists arrived to the court premises and warned of converting the girl into Christianity, but asked Wilson to convert to Hinduism. Accordingly, Wilson converted to Hinduism. He was renamed as Rakesh and once again married to Shobini according to Hindu rituals at the Arya Samaj.
