M’lore: SJEC felicitates Prof Ganapathi Bhat on Teachers Day

Mangalore, Sep 06, 2014: The Mechanical Engineering Students’ Association - Torque along with ISTE Students’ Chapter of St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC) - Vamanjoor, here celebrated Teachers’ Day at seminar hall of civil engineering department on Friday September 5.

 

Professor Ganapathi Bhat, an academician par excellence with 49 years of experience in engineering education was felicitated.

Professor Bhat, a distinguished Professor in the mechanical engineering department at SJEC has retired from his duties since June 2014, thus ending an illustrious career spanning 5 decades.

 

SJEC principal Dr Joseph Gonsalvis presided the function.

 

SJEC designated-director Fr Ajith Menezes was the guest of honor. 

 

The head of department of mechanical engineering Dr Raju K and quality assurance dean Dr Thirumaleshwara Bhat was present on the occasion.

 

A video presentation on the life of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, Indian philosopher and second President of India, whose birth anniversary is celebrated as Teachers’ Day across the country.

Joel Concessao addressed the gathering on behalf of SJEC Alumni and Shishira Aithal spoke on behalf of current students. They shared their experiences as students in Professor Bhat’s class and thanked him for all his guidance.

 

Professor Bhat, in his speech, urged the teachers to be committed and dedicated towards their duty of imparting knowledge to the students. He also called upon the students to take Dr S Radhakrishnan as their role model. He also urged them to use technology like internet and cell phones judiciously. He also remembered SJEC former director Fr Valerian D’Souza and former principal Dr R K Yaji on this occasion.

 

Denzil Tom and group led the prayers. Dr Raju Kwelcomed the gathering. Torque co-ordinator Shreeranga Bhat proposed the vote of thanks. Assistant Professor Ramya compered the programme.

 

The formal function was followed by games and other fun activities for teaching and non-teaching staff by the students, as part of Teachers Day celebrations.
